I chose to examine and look into the organization of Harlem Children’s Zone. Not only does this organization support the children of Harlem but the community as well. This organization doesn’t focus on one age group but a wide range from infants and toddlers to college age students. I have not received a newsletter as of yet, but I have enjoyed reading and searching through their website.
One recent news article that has caught my attention is the outreach to transform public housing. Many of the children’s parents are working long and tiring hours. This organization has established free classes for children ranging from kindergarten to twelfth grade. These classes include gourmet cooking, theatre, and voice production. The main goal of these classes is to reach more students and to keep students off of the streets.
Wherever you look on this website, you will see the main purpose of this organization is providing the best future for these children growing up in a “poverty stricken” area.
Poverty is everywhere isn't it?? It breaks my heart to know so many people are suffering everyday. We have issues in our daily lives but they are nothing compared to those that have no money. We are truly blessed and so many take it for granted. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading about programs that try their hardest to keep children out of the streets. More programs should promote after school programs that will interest the needs of all children, and or make it mandatory for children who are not receiving c or better grades.
ReplyDeleteI love this organization as well! The program you discussed is such a wonderful idea. It gives all children an opportunity to find a hobby/interest and the materials to be involved in it. Having programs after school not only helps keep children off the streets, but provides them with yet another learning opportunity.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful organization! This organization has a wonderful mission. Families must have their needs met before children are able to function at their best.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great organization. I love the fact that they are exposing children to things that they may not otherwise have access to.The gourmet cooking and the arts is wonderful. The main thing is that it is free. To me that means there are a lot of community service and voluteers that are around. I am sure they are getting grants and funding somewhere and i really hope that it continues. It is nice to know there are places that are still finding in there hearts to provide postive opportunites where children can be creative.
